IT giant Cisco recently conducted an interesting study of "Connected World Technology" on more than 3.000 students and young employees worldwide.

The results showed that one third of respondents consider the Internet as important as food, water and roof over their heads. The study also found that 64% of students and young employees prefer to have Internet access than their own car.

As if that were not enough, as much as 40% of young employees would agree to a lower salary in exchange for a little more flexibility in choosing their own technological gadgets, availability of social media and more flexibility in working remotely. Most also thought that company computers, cell phones and laptops should be used for both business and for fun in your free time.

A major change in the way of using new technologies is seen in testimonies of young Britons and Spaniards for whom a cell phone is much more important than a personal computer. In addition, no interviewed student and employee in Spain, Italy, Canada, Mexico and Brazil considers TV the most important technology entertainment.

However, these results are not surprising if we know that many experts have long explored the priorities of the new, so-called Y generation that is slowly entering the business world. Judging by the results, employers will need to enter significant changes in their operations and methods of motivating employees.
