Twelve power utility companies from the region discussed about the opening of the electricity market at the first meeting in Skopje. The meeting was organized by the Macedonian power utility MEPSO.
They all discussed a mutual centre for capacity allocation, where all traders will be able to compete for cross-border capacities. For the time being, this centre is in Podgorica, Albania. This is only one step in the liberalization process.
For this purpose, all problems need to be solved and legal conditions created. Many topics need to be discussed in details and solved mutually, said Dejan Boskovski, head of MEPSO.
MEPSO is a company fully state-owned, established in 2005 after the transformation of the Electric Power Company of Macedonia. The core MEPSO activity is a smooth electricity transmission via the high voltage network, electric power system control and regular and duly electricity flow to its clients such as the large industrial consumers (Bucim, OKTA, Maksteel, Mitalsteel, USJE, Silmak, and FENI Industry), and to the low voltage grid of EVN Macedonia.
