Turkish_warplanesTurkish warplanes have targeted alleged bases of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist group in Iraq's northern Kurdish region, wounding at least one civilian, Kurdish officials say.

The Sulaimaniyah and Arbil provinces were raided by the Turkish fighter jets on Tuesday night, AFP reported.

Hassan Abdullah, the mayor of the Qalat Dizah area in Sulaimaniyah, said the 20-year-old civilian, Ismail Baz Hamed, was wounded during the bombing.

"The bombing caused heavy damage to farms and livestock in Qalat Dizah," he added.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an official from Kurdistan region's interior ministry also confirmed that there were strikes in Arbil province on Tuesday night.

In October, 26 Turkish soldiers were killed after members of the PKK launched simultaneous attacks on police and military installations in Turkey's Hakkari.

The PKK is a separatist terrorist group based in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. The militants took up arms against the Turkish government in 1984 to establish a Kurdish homeland in Turkey's southeast.

Listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and most of the international community, PKK is held responsible by Turkey for the loss of nearly 45,000 lives over the past two decades.
