Head of the Kosovo team for the dialogue with Serbia, Edita Tahiri explained that, by accepting the stamps of Kosovo customs, "Serbia recognized Kosovo's independence."

"The agreement on the recognition of customs stamps has huge importance, both from the political, economic and the aspect of regional cooperation. The agreement represents a reciprocal recognition between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia in this area," Tahiri told Albanian language daily Epoka e Re.

Tahiri said that the EU and the U.S. "are the guardians of the agreement".

Serbian opposition: It is a step towards the recognition

Vice President of the Democratic Party of Serbia, Slobodan Samardzic agrees as he reportedly said that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on the custom seals represents a new step towards the recognition of independence of Kosovo

Samardzic said at the press conference that the agreement is leading towards the solidifying of "a fixed border between Serbia and Kosovo."

"Our negotiators slowly led things to the end, and step by step Serbia accept any demands and wishes. They are building a new border before our eyes, with the full conscious consent of Serbia," Samardzic said.

DSS vice president said that the earlier agreement on the Kosovo ID document represented a "major breakthrough" toward recognition of independence, and that now the deal about the official Kosovo seal is a continuation of that process.

"Serbia has given Kosovo for the position in the eternal waiting-room for membership of the EU. So Serbs gave up part of its territory in exchange for the an adventure whose outcome is uncertain," said Samardzic.

He stated that the public is not able to know which police and customs officials will be at the border crossing after the agreement on custom seals, pointing that most likely it will be the Kosovo customs officers and policemen.

Samardzic added that the public and the citizens of Serbia, the Serbian Parliament in particular, still do not know the details of previous negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, and their final results.

Kosovo opposition: agreement against Kosovo interests

On the other hand not everyone in Kosovo agrees that the current dialogue is benefiting the Kosovo Albanian side, like the Kosovo's Self-Determination Movement. At the news conference, Tahiri addressed a recent incident involving members of the Movement, by saying the group was "power-hungry", and in urgent need of "democracy lessons".

"There are opposition parties that put their own interests before those of the state. That is precisely what the members of the Self-Determination Movement did. We are a democratic state and we accept different opinions, as well as rejection, but the way they protested is not at all democratic," Tahiri added.

Activists of the nationalist ethnic Albanian movement pelted Tahiri with tomatoes at the airport in Priština after she returned from Brussels on September 2.

They said the latest round of the Kosovo talks, as well as the entire dialogue, ran against "Kosovo's interests".

Thirty five Self-Determination activist were arrested in connection to the airport incident late on Friday.
